be rest, for God knows what you need

Posted by chrysti siswotaruno |

Rest. Rest means to relax, refresh and recover strength. It is a word that we all desire in one way or another. When I think of rest, I think of my bed. A place where I can lay my head down and relax.

God shows us what His rest looks like in Scripture. God’s rest is His promises to us. His promise to never leave us nor forsake us. His promise that He loves us so much He gave His life for us.

The promise of God is the rest of God.

Sometimes it is hard for us to experience God’s rest because we forget His promises. We focus so much on the situation, we forget who is present with us. Hebrews 3:19 says, “So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.” When we stop believing in God’s promises and presence; we cannot have rest in Him.

In order to experience God’s rest, we don’t have to create a to do list, all we have to do is believe. Believe in who He says He is. Believe that He loves you so much, He gave His only son for you. Believe He mourns when you are hurt. Believes He will still use your hurts for good. All we have to do is believe, “For only we who believe can enter his rest…” Hebrews 4:3.

In order to find true rest in Christ, all we have to do is believe in His promise of love.

God,
I believe in you, but please help my unbelief. It is so hard sometimes to believe your promises when it doesn’t feel like you are present. Please help me focus on your truth instead of my feelings. Help me know that you are enough, because no one or nothing will ever be enough. May I find rest in your presence. Amen.
